Batman: Arkham Origins Coming Out This Year

First Details on Batman: Arkham Origins

Batman: Arkham Origins - it’s on its way to the PS3, Xbox360 and Wii U on October 25th, along with a companion title on the PS Vita and 3Ds. Next-gen consoles remain a question mark.

It’s the story of a younger, less experienced Batman, taking place before the events of both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Eight assassins are sent to kill the Dark Knight on Christmas Eve, and the player has to beat them back. The game is meant to show us Gotham not just as a wasteland populated by murderers and weirdos, but as a living, working city. Sounds a little Grand Theft Auto, but the series’ gameplay is distinctive enough that this is bound to be its own game. Developer Warner Bros. Montreal will have all the assets and Unreal engine mods from Rocksteady’s games. When Batman: Arkham Asylum first came out, it bucked the longstanding industry trend of lackluster licensed games doing their best to cash in on recognizable characters while doing as little work as possible Superman 64 often stands as one of the worst games ever. The Arkham series has been one of the few superhero games respected enough by fans that the story has become canon. Batman: Arkham Origins will be out Oct. 25
